Neighbourhood butchers seem all but extinct, but a small Windsor store on Windsor's west and east side is a booming success. Marc Romualdi and his wife Christine run M.R. Meat Market Ltd., 2451 Tecumseh Rd. W. and 6645 Tecumseh Rd. E.

Romualdi began his career as a meat cutter in his dad's Leamington IGA store years ago. "We do things here no one else does," says Marc Romualdi, 33, pointing to his popular sausages made on premises, his stuffed mushrooms with sausage and other store-made specialty items.

The store sells more than one ton a week of his sausage.

The couple survives in a brutally fierce food market in Windsor, he says, because of quality, service and price. Windsor consumers are savvy shoppers who know value.

"We're the largest meat market in Windsor by volume," Romualdi boasts. "We're all about volume."

He uses space in the adjacent produce retailer's coolers for additional storage.
He buys almost all his meats from Canadian sources. He looks for premium grades, lean cuts and products without salt and water added.

Windsorites love food, and that's what attracted him to return to the area, enter the retail food market about a year ago and open the store.
Everyone told him he was crazy, he says, but he persisted.

"There's nothing like this city. Windsor is a very special food market for me."

Good For You Yogurt Bowl

Mar 10, 2016

This quick little recipe is packed with so much nutrition and is really easy to make once you have some basic supplies and a little organization.  We all have heard the benefits of Chia Seeds, ground Flaxseed, Cinnamon and Plain Yogurt. The question is:

How can we get all of those good things into our Regular Diet, easily and quickly?

I thought to myself these dry ingredients need to be in an area all together where its easy to grab them and go.  I created one shelf in my kitchen for my Good For You Stuff.  I purchased some MASON JARS for the Chia Seeds, Flaxseeds, Nuts (Your choice),and Dried Fruits. When I purchase these items I fill up my mason jars keeping the shelf clean and organized. I keep my honey, cinnamon, and vanilla extract on the same shelf.

Now all you need is the right yogurt! I enjoy the taste and texture of the Plain Balkan Style Yogurt.  No need to be afraid of plain yogurt because you can sweeten it with Honey and cinnamom and sometimes even a dash of vanilla.

My morning ritual consists of grabbing a bowl, filling it with the Balkan Yogurt, and then opening my special cupboard to grab my fixings! I sprinkle approx. 1 tbsp. of each item and at the end I add honey. I sometimes even add FRESH FRUIT instead of the dried fruit! You can play around with the optional ingredients but make sure you have all the important ingredients in the bowl (Chia, Cinnamon, Flaxseed, honey):

Good For You Yogurt Bowl

1/2 cup of Astro Plain Balkan Style Yogurt (Probiotic! Keeps Your Gut Balanced)

Sprinkle the yogurt with Cinnamon (strengthens the immune system),

Chia Seeds (Today's Superfood packed with TONS OF NUTRITION),

Ground Flaxseed (fibre amongst other things!!),

Hempseed (High in Omega's, Protein Good for your heart!!)

Honey (Great Immune Booster! Great for Allergies)

Nuts (Almonds, Walnuts, Pecans) All rich in Omega's and helps with Cardiovascular Health

Fresh Fruit (Strawberries, Banana, Blueberries etc. A diet Rich in Fruit maintains Good Health)

Jo-Jo's Peanut Butter & Chocolate Smoothie

Feb 19, 2016

By: Jody Joseph

This Smoothie hands down is my family’s Favourite! It is packed with Nutrition and is so delicious!! How Sneaky…. Your family will never know all that good nutrition that you snuck into it!! It’s a perfect fix for 7pm at night when you are craving something sweet or it is a great protein fix after a workout. It is also filling enough that I sometimes give it to my kids in the morning before school. At least I know they had some nutrition before running out the door.

You can use whatever liquid base you prefer. I used Almond milk this time, but I have used Vanilla Coconut Milk or Chocolate Soy Milk in the past. Milk would even work. This is my opportunity to also sneak in ground Flaxseed, Chia Seed, Hemp Seed and Cacao Nibs. I play around with the recipe depending on what I have in the pantry. Here is the base smoothie. These ingredients are necessary to achieve the taste that your family will love!! Hope your family likes it as much as mine!!

Ingredients:

2 cups of Almond Milk

3 tbsp. of Peanut Butter

3 tbsp. of Nutella

2 Ripe Bananas

1 tbsp. Honey

2 tbsp. Chia Seeds

Dash of Cinnamon

1 tbsp. Falxseed (optional)

1tbsp. Hempseed (optional)

2 tbsp. Cacao Nibs or Dark Chocolate (optional)

1 ½ cups of ice

Directions

Blend all ingredients and enjoy!!
