Microdermabrasion is often called the “instant facelift” technique. It is a particularly effective and economical method of diminishing the appearance of acne scars, sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines and other superficial imperfections that in the past could only be removed by costly chemical peels or plastic surgery.

Microdermabrasion works by removing the upper layer of the epidermis that is made up mostly of dead and aging skin cells. Our therapists stroke a special abrasion tool across the area to be treated which blasts tiny rough grains at the skin surface and so gently buffs away a microscopically fine layer of the superficial epidermis where most fine wrinkles and skin imperfections are located.

The body reacts to this ultra-fine buffing action by flooding the underlying skin layers with the nutrients and fluids they need to produce new skin cells to replace those that have been removed. This is why there may be some slight redness and puffiness in the first few hours after treatment, though this soon subsides.

Over the next few days, you will notice your skin tone acquire a new glow, vigor and smoothness as the outermost epidermis ‘heals’ from its slight buffing. You will notice that you have less fine wrinkles blemishes and find that your moisturizer and hydrating lotions soak into your skin more readily and seem to have more effect.

For best results we usually recommend a course of six treatments over the course of several months, though this does vary according to the condition and the amount of skin imperfections being treated.
